About us

We are a team of psychodynamic counsellors and psychotherapists who specialise in open-ended therapy, working with individual adults.

We are constituted as a charity, which allows us to provide lower-cost and sometimes further subsidised sessions relative to the private sector, for those in more challenging circumstances.

About Counselling & Psychotherapy

People decide to come for counselling or psychotherapy for many reasons. You might find yourself in need of a safe, non-judgemental space where you can talk through your thoughts and feelings with a trained therapist in order to gain a better understanding of yourself.

Psychodynamic counselling and psychotherapy give you the chance to explore your thoughts, feelings and concerns in confidence and at your own pace. The psychodynamic approach also acknowledges the importance of past experiences and their impact on how we relate to ourselves and others. This process can take some time and this will be different for each individual. However, over time, a better understanding of feelings can gradually improve our ability to manage them.

Why might someone come to counselling?

Relationship problems

Facing challenging life experiences such as divorce, bereavement, redundancy

Feeling ill at ease or discontented at work, socially or in your family

Depression and anxiety

Fearing that feelings may overwhelm you

Traumas past and present

What happens next?

  1. Once we receive your email enquiry, you will be asked about your availability for ongoing sessions which last 50 minutes and are on the same day and at the same time each week.

  2. If we have a counsellor or psychotherapist with availability at the same time, you will be sent a questionnaire to complete. The questionnaire allows us to understand a little about you and your circumstances.

  3. Following the receipt of your completed questionnaire, you will be offered an initial appointment with one of our team who might not be the same counsellor/therapist you will be seeing on an ongoing basis.

  4. At the initial consultation, which is usually up to 90 minutes long, there will be an opportunity to explore if sessions at SCTC are the type of support you are looking for. It will give you an opportunity to ask any questions you might have and to discuss ongoing fees. It will also allow you to decide together with the counsellor whether SCTC seems the right place for you. Our standard fee for this is £55.

  5. After the initial appointment, if appropriate you will be invited to start your weekly sessions. Working in an open-ended way means that sessions will continue for as long as you find the therapeutic work helpful.

Our standard fee is £50 for each ongoing weekly session of 50 minutes. Some concessions may be available, depending on circumstances.
